As the CCMA and PACEY Local Early Years Conference is fast approaching Joana took some time out to share what conference means to her and what people can expect when they visit.
What does narrowing the gap mean to you? Narrowing the gap to me means, how we as practitioners can help to identify and support children to meet their development milestones and go beyond them. For example, we may have children that have a speech and language delay and want to know how we can help the child and their family with support, strategies and practice that help them to move on in their learning and development. Children who are maintaining their developmental stages can also be supported to move beyond this and therefore exceed and make great progress. The same applies to children who are high achievers, who if we do not encourage and assist them in their learning, can become bored, disruptive and lose focus. Penny Tassoni & Chris Williams have both seen stunning results with the knowledge and skills that they share with us on this day. Why should people attend the Conference? Benefits to children and families

What do you do? What are your commitments to the early years sector? I have been working with children for over 30 years. In this time I have seen many changes but interestingly the needs of children remain unchanged. I try in my work to keep sight of this in my writing and training work. I am currently president for PACEY. What are your latest publishing projects? My latest writing project is about behaviour and helping children to be with others. I am in the research phase. What does narrowing the gap mean to you? Narrowing the gap for me is about social justice. It can not be right that children's life chances are dictated by their postcode. In terms of early years, I think we have to be ready to change our practice and become strategic in our thinking about these children's needs. What you are most looking forward to about the Early Years Conference? I am really looking forward to the conference as childminders and other professionals in early years always bring so much energy and enthusiasm to these events. It is a great way of hearing new ideas and sharing practice. Penny Tassoni is the UK's leading author in childcare and Early Years education and is president of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years. Penny is a guest speaker at the Early Years Conference being held in Croydon on Saturday 13th May 2017. For more information and to book your tickets please click here. |
